Who we are
We are a class of 200 first grade kids studying in a government school in Ahmadabad. We require books for our classroom and school library for we wish to read more books in English so that we excel in this language and at our reading level. Help us become readers for life
Our work and its impact
I am Kushal Sonawane working for an NGO called Teach For India, a project of Teach To Lead established in 2008, is a nationwide movement of outstanding college graduates and young professionals who will commit two-years to teach full-time in under resourced schools and who will become lifelong leaders working from within various sectors towards the pursuit of equity in education.
How we will utilise these books
Being a fellow at Teach For India, i teach 40 first grade teach in low resource school in Ahmadabad. For us at Teach For India every single child matters. We believe that every child can and must attain an excellent education. In order to achieve this, we need a movement of leaders across all sectors that are committed to, and will work towards, ending educational inequity in our country. Our vision- One day all children will attain excellent education. Today, Teach For India is in 7 cities - Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmadabad and Bengaluru. We have a total of approximately 1200 Fellows and 1100 Alumni working towards eliminating educational inequity. In June 2009, we placed our first cohort of Fellows in low-income municipal and private schools in Pune and Mumbai. My aim is to setup a library for my class and school which has 200 5-6 year old. With these funds I will be raising a library for these kids in school, so they develop a habit of reading and learning.
