Who we are
Jidnyasa Charitable Trust is a nonprofit organization working towards improving the education, health, and overall well-being of children from marginalized and underserved communities in rural Maharashtra.
Founded with a vision to ensure that every child gets the opportunity to learn and reach their full potential, Jidnyasa works with government schools, children of migrant sugarcane workers, parents, teachers, and communities to create meaningful and sustainable change.
We believe that education is not only about access to schools, but about creating joyful learning experiences, building confidence, nurturing curiosity, and developing skills that help children succeed in life.
Our work and its impact
Jidnyasa Charitable Trust works to improve education and well-being among children, women, and adolescents from underserved rural communities in Maharashtra, with a special focus on children of migrant sugarcane workers.
Through our programs, we create safe and joyful learning spaces in government schools and migrant settlements by strengthening foundational literacy and numeracy, promoting reading habits, Foundational literacy and Maths, improving English language skills, and encouraging creativity through play-based learning.
Our interventions include children's libraries, reading programs, school readiness initiatives, leadership and life-skills activities, health and hygiene education, and parental engagement.
Our work impacts society by ensuring that vulnerable children, especially those affected by migration and poverty, have access to quality education and opportunities to learn. By helping children develop essential learning skills and a love for reading, we aim to reduce educational inequalities and empower them to build a better future for themselves and their communities.
How we will utilise these books
The books will be used to strengthen reading skills among children from migrant sugarcane worker families and students studying in rural government schools. It will be placed in our community libraries, school libraries, and learning centers, where children will have free access to age-appropriate storybooks. The books will also be used during read-aloud sessions, storytelling activities, book discussions, and creative expression exercises.
Many migrant children experience interruptions in their education because of seasonal migration. Access to books helps them remain connected to learning, improves their language skills, and creates a sense of continuity in their educational journey. The books will support the development of vocabulary, comprehension, imagination, and critical thinking skills.
By creating joyful reading spaces and encouraging children to read regularly, we aim to nurture lifelong readers and ensure that every child has the opportunity to imagine, and dream.
