Who we are
Khaangchu pioneers a transformative educational model rooted in the indigenous knowledge systems of the Rongmei Nagas in Northeast India. By reviving the traditional Khaangchu and contextualizing education within the tribe, we envision creating safe, democratic spaces where Rongmei learners can authentically explore and express their identity. We strategically blend the best, most equitable, inclusive practices in education with indigenous knowledge systems, sustainable living practices and modern skills to meet the current needs of our community. Through experiential learning and local resource utilization, we aim to eliminate the dual realities learners face, bridging the gap between conventional education and their lived experiences.
We’re creating a future where every Rongmei child in NE India transforms from being a passive recipient of violence to a committed participant in championing sustainable impact and fostering peace in the region. We believe that one day, all Rongmei children of Northeast India will have access to an education that empowers their identity and celebrates the wisdom of their ancestors.
Our work and its impact
Our approach combines experiential learning, critical thinking, communication, innovation, sustainable living practices, and local resource utilization. We create safe, democratic spaces where children learn not only academic concepts but also leadership, empathy, problem-solving, and community responsibility. Through initiatives such as sports for wellness, mentorship, and community-led learning, we address challenges like school dropout, substance abuse, and social exclusion while nurturing confident and resilient young leaders.
The impact of our work extends beyond education. By strengthening cultural identity, promoting peace, and creating opportunities for dignified livelihoods, Khaangchu is enabling a community to build self-sustaining villages where tradition and innovation coexist. Our vision is to create a legacy of peace, prosperity, and shared opportunity, ensuring that every Rongmei child grows into an informed leader, skilled problem-solver, globally conscious citizen, and compassionate changemaker.How we will utilise these books
Reading is central to our educational philosophy because it develops the skills that every child needs to thrive: critical thinking, curiosity, creativity, empathy, and effective communication. The books procured through this initiative will be a part of our Khaangchu centre. The libraries in each classroom will enable children to have access to varied literature almost every day.
By cultivating a strong reading culture, we are investing in the next generation of changemakers who can think independently, solve problems, and lead their communities with wisdom and compassion. Through stories and diverse perspectives, children learn to understand themselves, appreciate their cultural identity, and engage thoughtfully with the wider world. Every book placed in a child's hands is an opportunity to inspire hope, unlock potential, and move us closer to Khaangchu's vision of building peaceful, resilient, and self-sustaining communities.
