Who we are
NAVU Prathishtana Trust (NAVU) is a non-governmental, non-political, and non-profit organisation established on 26 March 2021 by a group of like-minded people. NAVU is a public charitable organisation working to promote child rights through advocacy and awareness initiatives in Kodagu district, Karnataka. The organisation primarily works with government school children and community institutions, especially in rural and semi-urban areas of Karnataka.
NAVU believes that childhood learning should be joyful, participatory, rights-based, and rooted in local culture. The organisation integrates traditional games, reading culture, constitutional values, and child participation platforms to nurture confident, responsible, and socially aware citizens.
Our work and its impact
NAVU is committed to the upliftment and holistic development of children and adolescents through education, play, culture, civic engagement, and environmental awareness. Its activities include Children’s Grama Sabha, personality development classes, child rights clubs, creative camps, bird-watching clubs, children’s libraries, and other initiatives that create meaningful learning and participation opportunities for children.
Our flagship initiative, the Children’s Self-Exploring & Experimental Centre, is a unique learning space that combines a children’s library with traditional games. It provides children with opportunities to explore knowledge and creativity through reading, storytelling, games, and creative activities.
Through our Mobile Bidi, Maidanakke Nedi initiative, we aim to reduce children’s screen time and encourage outdoor play, physical activity, and social interaction.
With the growing use of mobile phones among children, the campaign highlights the importance of traditional games, open spaces, and active lifestyles for children’s physical and mental well-being. Through community events, school programmes, and awareness drives, NAVU encourages children to disconnect from screens and reconnect with nature, friends, and play, fostering healthier and happier childhoods.
How we will utilise these books
The books raised through this campaign will be used to establish a community library for tribal children in Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka. The library will provide children with regular access to engaging and age-appropriate storybooks and create a welcoming space where they can read, and participate in different activities centred around books.
We aim to procure Pratham Books’ Hanging Library model to make the best use of the available space. The setup will encourage children to visit the library, read regularly, participate in activities, and spend meaningful time reading and playing together. By bringing a library closer to tribal children in Coorg, this initiative aims to make reading more accessible and enjoyable while nurturing curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a lifelong love for books.
