Who we are

Varul Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving educational opportunities for educationally disadvantaged tribal and rural children in Maharashtra. We believe every child deserves access to quality books, joyful learning, and an environment that nurtures curiosity, creativity, confidence, and overall well-being.

We primarily work with underserved tribal communities where access to quality educational resources remains limited. By collaborating with schools, teachers, parents, and local communities, we create safe, inclusive, and sustainable learning environments.

Our vision is to ensure that every child, regardless of socio-economic background or geographical location, becomes a confident reader, a responsible individual, and a lifelong learner through accessible, meaningful, and joyful education.

Our work and its impact

Our primary focus is on strengthening children's reading and language skills by establishing community and school libraries, providing age-appropriate books, and conducting storytelling, read-aloud sessions, guided reading, and creative learning activities. We also work closely with teachers and communities to build a sustainable culture of reading.

Our flagship initiatives, Bookberry and Saksham, support children's holistic development. Bookberry promotes a culture of reading by establishing child-friendly libraries in schools and communities. Through storytelling, read-aloud sessions, guided reading, and creative activities, children develop language skills, imagination, critical thinking, and a lifelong love for reading.

Saksham, our Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) initiative, equips children and adolescents with age-appropriate knowledge, life skills, and values. Interactive sessions promote body safety, emotional well-being, gender equality, healthy relationships, respect, and responsible decision-making.

Our work helps children develop literacy, critical thinking, communication, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning. By improving foundational learning and creating equitable access to books, we empower children to perform better in school, gain confidence, and unlock future opportunities. Through these efforts, Varul Foundation is contributing to stronger schools, informed communities, and a more equitable society where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

How we will utilise these books

The storybooks will be used to establish and strengthen school and community libraries in tribal and rural areas. Children will have regular access to age-appropriate, high-quality books through structured reading sessions conducted by trained facilitators.

The books will be utilized during storytelling, read-aloud sessions, guided and independent reading, book discussions, and creative follow-up activities such as drawing, writing, and role play. Teachers and community volunteers will also be encouraged to integrate the books into classroom and after-school learning.

To ensure long-term use, each library will have a simple book management system, and the books will remain available for children to borrow and read throughout the year. This approach will help develop reading habits, improve language and skills, stimulate imagination, and foster a lifelong love for reading.
