Who we are
Shree Rambriksh Rai Memorial Children's Library was established in the memory of my late father, who wished to create a library specifically for young children—a place where any child could come and turn the pages of books. I started this library with the vision of creating a joyful reading space for children, especially those from underprivileged and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Currently, it has a collection of more than 2,000 books, but there are still very few books for young readers.
The library was created with the belief that every child should have access to books beyond their school textbooks. It aims to nurture imagination, curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love for reading. Every day, children visit the library to explore colorful stories and experience the joy that books can bring.
Our work and its impact
I am a teacher by profession and a passionate believer in the power of reading. Through the library, my constant effort is to encourage children to turn the pages of books instead of spending excessive time on mobile screens.
Previously, on my late father’s death anniversary, I distributed joyful storybooks from Pratham Books to the students of Sant Kakkaya Marg Mumbai Public School, Dharavi. The children were excited to receive and explore storybooks beyond their regular textbooks. It was heartwarming to see how books sparked curiosity, joy, imagination, and enthusiasm for reading among the students.
Inspired by this impact, I aim to continue bringing the same joy of reading to children in our community, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. Through free access to engaging and enriching books, the library will create a safe and inspiring space where children can dream and grow through reading.
How we will utilise these books
Many children in and around our residential complex study in government and municipal schools. While they receive academic textbooks from school, they often lack access to storybooks and recreational reading materials that make reading enjoyable.
The books received through this fundraiser will help expand the community library and create an engaging reading environment where children can explore stories and improve their reading skills. The goal is to ensure that every child, regardless of their financial background, has the opportunity to experience the joy of reading.
