Who we are
The One Billion Lives Foundation (OBLF) is a nonprofit organisation working to improve outcomes in Education and Public Health, particularly for underserved communities.
At OBLF, we believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to dream. With a focus on Education and Public Health, we are working towards a future where children learn, families thrive, and healthcare upholds dignity at every stage of life.
A book is more than paper and print, it is curiosity sparked, confidence built, and imagination set free. When children and adults fall in love with reading, they unlock a lifetime of learning and possibility. Yet for many, access to quality books remains out of reach and your support can change that.
Our work and its impact
OBLF focuses on strengthening community-driven processes to improve Public Health and Education outcomes, especially for vulnerable populations.
In Education, we build the capacity of community members and deploy them as educators in government schools to address learning gaps and teacher shortages. We focus on strengthening foundational skills to improve overall learning outcomes while empowering women from these communities as changemakers. Our work aims to create equitable access to opportunities for all.
In Public Health, we strengthen comprehensive primary healthcare services by partnering with communities, Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), and the government. We work to reduce barriers to care and out-of-pocket health expenses, with a focus on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), Mental Health (MH), and Geriatric & Palliative Care (GPC).
How we will utilise these books
OBLF has been working in government schools in the aspirational districts of Yadgir and Raichur, Karnataka, for over a year. We are now introducing a Library and Structured Reading Initiative to create a shared reading resource that primarily supports children, while also enabling educators to facilitate engaging reading experiences.
The books procured through this fundraiser will be used during structured reading sessions, storytelling activities, guided reading, and group discussions within the classroom. The books will help children build fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, and confidence, while nurturing curiosity, imagination, and a lasting love for reading. .
At the same time, OBLF educators will be supported in incorporating these books into their lesson plans and classroom activities, enabling them to facilitate meaningful and interactive reading sessions.
