Who we are
Alternative Development and Information Centre (ADIC) is a not-for-profit organization registered under the Manipur Society Registration Act, 1989, in 2019. We work primarily in the Chandel and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur, focusing on grassroots interventions in education, livelihood, environment, gender equality, human rights, and health.
ADIC is a collective initiative committed to addressing the challenges faced by hill communities through sustainable and inclusive development. We strive to enhance individual capabilities while strengthening community structures. At the community level, we collaborate with key stakeholders to promote participatory and inclusive development. At the individual level, we focus on building skills, confidence, and awareness to enable meaningful change while ensuring the protection of individual rights.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life of tribal communities and contribute to building a just and equitable society through collective and sustained efforts.
Our work and its impact
Since 2019, ADIC has been dedicated to empowering rural and vulnerable youth through focused educational and awareness initiatives.
Through the Beyond School Initiative (BSI), we provide academic support, mentorship, and holistic development opportunities to internally displaced and marginalized students. In the academic year 2023–2024,287 internally displaced students directly benefited from BSI. With structured academic guidance and consistent mentoring, students demonstrated significant improvement in confidence and academic performance. Many successfully cleared their Matric examinations, marking an important milestone toward higher education and brighter futures.
Through the Progressive Youth Movement (PYM), we nurture informed, responsible, and future-ready citizens. In 2023–2024, 512 students from four schools participated in career guidance sessions, drug addiction awareness programs, and climate awareness initiatives. These interventions provided clarity on career pathways, strengthened resilience against substance abuse, and fostered environmental responsibility.
Together, BSI and PYM reflect our commitment to nation-building by strengthening young minds at the grassroots level. By investing in education, awareness, and character development, we are shaping confident learners and responsible citizens who will contribute meaningfully to society and the nation’s progress.
How we will utilise these books
The donated books will be thoughtfully utilized to promote holistic development among rural students who often lack access to quality reading materials beyond prescribed textbooks. We will establish accessible reading corners and community libraries where students can explore and broaden their perspectives. Reading beyond the curriculum strengthens vocabulary, comprehension, creativity, empathy, and independent thinking. It also builds confidence in communication, improves concentration, and encourages a lifelong love for learning.
Most importantly, exposure to diverse reading materials nurtures values, leadership qualities, and social awareness that textbooks alone may not fully cultivate. Through this initiative, we aim to bridge the gap in access to quality reading resources and foster a culture of curiosity and a love for reading in rural communities.
This effort goes beyond distributing books—it is an investment in shaping thoughtful, capable, and responsible young citizens who will contribute meaningfully to nation-building.
