Who we are

Samerth Charitable Trust was established in 1992 and began its field operations in 2001 with a mission to empower vulnerable individuals and communities to live with dignity and resilience. It started its journey in the aftermath of the devastating Gujarat earthquake by initiating relief and rehabilitation efforts in the Rapar and Bhachau blocks of Kutch district. Over time, Samerth transitioned from emergency response to long-term development initiatives, focusing on drinking water security, protective irrigation, and community-level water harvesting by effectively leveraging MGNREGA and other government schemes. Its work has since evolved to include participatory groundwater management, revitalization of traditional water bodies, and strengthening climate-resilient livelihoods.

In 2006–07, Samerth began operations in the remote tribal hamlets of Kabirdham district in Chhattisgarh, working closely with the Baiga tribal community, a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG). The organization initially established mini-Anganwadis in unserved hamlets and later expanded its work in collaboration with government departments to strengthen watershed development, eco-restoration, and quality education—especially for children from migrant families.

Today, Samerth operates in 11 districts across Chhattisgarh, implementing programs focused on quality education, landscape restoration, water conservation, regenerative agriculture, and livelihood enhancement, with particular emphasis on the empowerment of children, youth, and women.

Our work and its impact

Samerth Charitable Trust has been working to ensure that children from marginalized and tribal communities have access to quality Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) through community-based ECCE centers and the Learning and Migration Program (LAMP), which supports education for children aged 6 to 14 years from migrant families. The organization also supports children aged 3 to 6 years and those affected by seasonal migration, who are often excluded from the formal education system.

In remote areas where Anganwadi services are inaccessible, we establish Para-Anganwadi models to provide safe, play-based, and developmentally appropriate learning environments. At the same time, we work closely with government Anganwadi Centres to strengthen the capacity of Anganwadi Workers through training, mentoring, and resource support. We promote the use of locally made teaching-learning materials and improve classroom environments to enhance child engagement and developmental outcomes.

Our programs integrate nutrition, foundational literacy and numeracy, and continuous professional development for educators. By engaging parents, caregivers, and PRI members, we build community ownership and awareness around early education, health, and nutrition—contributing to school readiness, gender equity, and long-term community resilience.

How we will utilise these books

The storybooks procured through this fundraiser will be used to strengthen early reading habits in tribal communities and integrated into Anganwadi Centres.

-Educators will conduct structured storytelling, role-play, and picture-reading sessions to build early language, listening, and comprehension skills.
-Child-friendly reading corners will be created to encourage independent exploration of books.
-Age-appropriate books in local languages will strengthen vocabulary development and boost children’s confidence.
-Books will also be used during parent engagement sessions to demonstrate responsive reading practices and encourage reading at home.
