Who we are
Upmanyu Knowledge Foundation was established to provide free education to underprivileged children in our ancestral village near Varanasi. We currently support 130 students by providing free education, healthy daily snacks, and access to activities such as games and music. We do not receive any funding from the government or CSR initiatives; all our expenses are covered through contributions from friends and family.
Our work and its impact
We run a school “Aashraya" in Ajagara Targaon for village kids and a women development center for in the village.
At Aashraya, we served 130 students from Classes 1 to 9. Students are provided with academic support along with life skills training, sports training, music classes, and computer education. In addition, the Aashraya Centre conducts regular remedial sessions (Classes 1–10) for students who attend government schools as well as for children who are not enrolled in any other school. We conduct two-hour remedial classes, five days a week, covering soft skills, life skills, computers, English, Science, and Mathematics. On weekends, students participate in library sessions, games, and computer classes.
We employ five teachers and one administrative staff member to manage the learning centre. Each child receives one healthy snack every day. The total annual cost per child is Rs 6,000, which includes books and stationery, teachers’ salaries, uniforms, and daily snacks.
At the Women’s development centre, several village women have been trained in stitching and are now earning a livelihood through tailoring. Additionally, we arrange regular visits by medical vans to the village to provide free check-ups, lab tests, and medicines to the villagers.
How we will utilise these books
The books procured through this fundraiser will be used to fill our dedicated library within our school. The library will provide children with access to age-appropriate storybooks that nurture reading habits, imagination, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
