Who we are
Paathshala Trust is a Jaipur-based NGO dedicated to providing education and holistic support to children rescued from trafficking hubs and street labour across Rajasthan. Founded by International Children’s Peace Prize winner Om Prakash Gurjar, the organisation works with children who often lack legal identity and access to the formal school system.
Operating in a state that remains among India’s top three for child labour rescues, with over 3,800 children liberated from hazardous sectors such as stone mining and handicraft workshops during 2024–25 alone, Paathshala Trust focuses on both rescuing children and ensuring that they stay in school, addressing the critical challenge of dropout due to economic pressures.
Our work and its impact
At Paathshala Trust, we believe that quality education is a right, not a privilege. We work at the heart of Jaipur’s underserved communities, providing a safe and nurturing environment where children from marginalised backgrounds can access free schooling, mentorship, and literacy resources.
By fostering a love for reading and learning, we empower children to break the cycle of poverty and labour. Our impact is visible as students gain the confidence to pursue higher education and vocational aspirations, becoming change-makers within their families and communities.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks will be used to set up a safe space for reading, giving children access to a wide range of age-appropriate reading materials. They will help foster a joy of reading among the children, encouraging them to stay engaged with education despite challenging circumstances.
Through structured reading programmes, the books will also be used to broaden children’s awareness of the world around them, spark curiosity, and inspire them to explore new possibilities for their future.
