Who we are
The Shaheed Bhagat Singh School of Armed Forces (SBS-AFPS) is a pioneering “Leadership Laboratory” established by the Government of Delhi in 2022. Spread across a 14-acre residential campus in Jharoda Kalan, the school democratizes military training by offering elite, free-of-cost preparation to students from 6-12 standards, 90% of whom come from underserved and Below Poverty Line communities.
The institution follows a rigorous 24/7 residential model that blends DBSE/IB academic excellence with the development of Officer-Like Qualities (OLQs) under the guidance of veteran military officers. The school’s impact has already been historic. In its debut year, 32 students, including 9 girls, cleared the UPSC NDA examination, placing the institution second in India and surpassing almost all established Sainik Schools.
Our work and its impact
SBS-AFPS is a transformative institution that prepares students from underprivileged backgrounds for leadership roles in the armed forces and beyond. By providing elite military and academic training to students primarily from government schools, the institution ensures that access to leadership opportunities is determined by merit rather than socio-economic background.
The school’s STEM-focused academics are integrated with military conditioning and OLQ development, creating disciplined, confident, and articulate cadets. In its very first year, the school’s exceptional performance in the UPSC NDA examination demonstrated the effectiveness of this model.
The school’s influence extends beyond producing military officers; it nurtures principled “Citizen-Leaders” who are disciplined, socially conscious, and prepared to serve the nation in diverse fields such as science, technology, and public service.
How we will utilise these books
The library at the SBS-AFPS is envisioned not only as a center for training but also as a space that nurtures imagination, empathy, and a love for reading. The storybooks procured through this fundraiser will be used to create a dedicated joyful reading collection for the students.
By integrating storybooks into daily campus life, the library aims to foster lifelong reading habits, emotional resilience, and balanced personal growth. This initiative ensures that alongside discipline and leadership training, students experience the simple joy of stories—supporting their development as well-rounded, thoughtful, and grounded individuals
