Who we are
Development Association for Needy Elevation (DANE) is a non-governmental, social service organisation established by educated individuals from deprived communities. Its development activities focus on uplifting the downtrodden and oppressed people living in the backward villages of Tiruvannamalai and Villupuram districts in Tamil Nadu.
DANE envisions an egalitarian and just social order where the oppressed have equal opportunities for development, can voice their rights, and take action to achieve them. Its mission is to sensitise the most disadvantaged communities, provide them with opportunities for growth, build awareness about their rights, and enable them to work towards self-reliance and empowerment.
The organisation’s activities are primarily based in the backward villages of Tiruvannamalai District. Its principal objective is the empowerment of deprived and disadvantaged individuals through non-formal and continuing education. To achieve this, DANE adopts strategies such as awareness building, initiating and strengthening people’s organisations, linking communities with support and resource systems, promoting social advocacy, and fostering effective networking.
