Who we are

The Jumbo Troops is a registered charitable trust established in 2019. Our primary initiative is the Human Elephant Conflict Mitigation project, operating across four forest ranges under the Kurseong forest division in Darjeeling, West Bengal. Our mission is clear: to assist wildlife in need and enact enduring measures for their protection. We are dedicated to safeguarding wildlife, preserving their habitats, educating children, and fostering sustainable livelihoods for communities previously reliant on wildlife for survival. We conduct educational programs for children in forest villages, organise habitat restoration by plantation campaigns, and assist the forest department in wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

The Jumbo Troops was established to make lasting changes to protect and conserve natural heritage, forest, and biodiversity. We actively work towards protecting wildlife, conserving habitat, educating children, and creating alternative and sustainable livelihoods for erstwhile communities that depend on wildlife for sustenance.

Our work and its impact

Our objective is to diminish conflict by raising awareness among the general populace, especially the younger generation, about the importance of safeguarding and nurturing forest wildlife and the environment. This involves sensitising communities residing along wildlife corridors and advocating for alternative agricultural practices to minimise further losses. We also extend immediate assistance and compensation to families affected by conflict. Additionally, we support the forest department in their efforts to mitigate conflicts and rescue wildlife.

Within the framework of our Nature Education for Children program, we involve children in observing ecology and developing educational materials about nature. Furthermore, we offer primary education to underprivileged children residing in forested areas through our centre. Presently, we operate two centres, one in Sanyasisthan Tea Garden and Deomani Forest village, catering to over 50 enrolled children.

How we will utilise these books

The tribal children at Sanyasisthan Tea Garden display remarkable enthusiasm and commitment to their studies, inspiring others to follow suit. Despite the learning centre being established for over a year and a half, these students remain resolute in pursuing excellence, setting a commendable example for future generations. The funds raised will help us procure joyful storybooks by Pratham Books which will enrich their learning experience, enabling them to delve deeper into various subjects and broaden their horizons. These resources will enhance their critical thinking skills and expose them to diverse ideas and knowledge.
