Who we are
The Community Library Project (TCLP) began with a simple read-aloud program, built on the belief that “Reading is Thinking”. Since opening our first library in 2014–15, TCLP has grown into three vibrant community libraries in Delhi and Gurugram, serving more than 6,000 active members of all ages, seven days a week. These libraries provide free, inclusive access to books and learning resources, creating spaces where imagination, inquiry, and learning thrive.
Our work and its impact
TCLP functions as a learning lab, developing and sharing best practices for running community libraries in diverse settings. Guided by the conviction that reading deeply is a basic human right, TCLP emphasizes literacy that encourages reflection, questioning, and engagement with the world. Our work strengthens individuals, builds communities, and reinforces the foundations of a democratic society.
How we will utilise these books
The books raised through this fundraiser will be the heart of our community libraries where children and youth can freely browse, borrow books, and participate in structured reading programs such as Book Reports, Book Talks, Reading Fluency and Structured Read-Alouds and Learn to Read. These programs transform books into entry points for conversation and critical thinking. More than filling the shelves—these books will also help create a culture of reading among the children, builds community bonds, and demonstrates that free inclusive libraries are essential for a healthier, more democratic society.
The impact of these programs is visible in:
-
-Children gaining confidence as they read aloud for the first time.
-Young people developing the ability to analyze ideas critically.
-Children sharing stories at home, strengthening bonds across generations.
