Who we are
We, Jitu and Basant, are first-generation graduates from rural Patna and proud members of DEVISE. Coming from families and communities where access to education was always a struggle and our own struggles with education drive this commitment to ensure that no child is left behind. Together, we have set up 5 Learning Centers, so that children in our communities can learn at their grade level, grow with confidence, and build a brighter future for themselves and their families.
DEVISE was founded with a vision of creating an inclusive society. One of the primary barriers to inclusion is the lack of access to quality education, especially for children from communities that are socially, economically, and geographically marginalized. These children are systematically denied opportunities that others take for granted.
To truly empower marginalized communities, we also address the various social and economic challenges that shape their daily lives. Challenges such as lack of nutritious food, insecure livelihoods, and daily struggles create environments where learning cannot thrive. DEVISE addresses these interconnected issues to build a truly inclusive and equitable society.
Our work and its impact
Our work focuses on promoting education among children and families who have long been deprived of learning opportunities—particularly those from the Musahar community. These children often drop out or never enroll in school due to illiteracy, poverty, and social discrimination. Instead of sending them directly to schools, we first connect them to our supplementary learning centers, where they engage in studies, creative activities, games, and group programs that spark interest in education and build self-confidence. After this initial phase, we assist in preparing essential documents for the children to ensured their school enrollment. Since many children are compelled to work instead of studying, we also engage with parents and the community to emphasize the long-term importance of education.
We also have a dedicated team member specifically assigned to supports families in preparing the documents required for their children’s school enrollment. We also organize meetings with teachers and arrange inclusive group activities for children to address discrimination in schools of the children. Through this approach, our work not only connects children with education but also cultivates awareness and equality in society.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks raised through this fundraiser will be distributed across our five supplementary learning centers, where they will play a central role in introducing children to the joy of reading. At the initial stage, children are most attracted to picture books and simple stories with easy words. That’s why we begin by assessing each child’s reading level—whether they can recognize letters, read words, or form sentences. Based on this, children are provided with suitable storybooks. Those who can read words and sentences receive books with short, engaging stories that gradually help them build comprehension and reading fluency.
Whenever a child struggles, our teachers and volunteers patiently guide them through the story. Beyond reading skills, these storybooks also spark imagination, creativity, and curiosity. With access to engaging books, children begin to see learning not as a burden, but as a joyful opportunity. Storybooks, therefore, become the simplest and most powerful tool to draw children toward education.
For DEVISE, storybooks are not just reading materials—they are a bridge connecting children to brighter futures.
