Who we are
St. Jude India ChildCare Centres (St. Judes) is an NGO that offers a clean, safe, and nurturing “home away from home” for children undergoing cancer treatment. Families from rural and semi-urban areas often travel to cities for medical care but lack the financial means for safe accommodation. As a result, they are forced to live in unhygienic, overcrowded areas near hospitals, putting immunocompromised children at risk leading them to abandon treatment altogether.
St. Judes bridges this critical gap by providing free accommodation in fully equipped family units. Each unit includes beds, storage space, and access to shared kitchens stocked with nutritious food and cooking utensils. Families also benefit from clean bathrooms, bathing areas, and laundry facilities, which are essential for maintaining hygiene during treatment.
In addition to physical care, St. Judes supports the emotional and educational well-being of children. Cancer treatment can interrupt schooling, leading to setbacks. Through an education program led by trained educators and volunteers, children receive tailored learning support. This helps them stay engaged, rebuild confidence, and return to school after treatment. St. Judes holistic model supports both healing and hope.
Our work and its impact
Every child with cancer deserves the best chance to survive and lead a healthy, fulfilling life—regardless of financial background. St. Jude India ChildCare Centres (St. Judes) makes this possible by offering cost-free, holistic care to families during a child’s cancer treatment. A diagnosis can bring overwhelming emotional and financial stress, and St. Judes supports every aspect of the child’s and caregiver’s journey.
St. Judes follows a three-circle care model. The First Circle—medical treatment—is provided by hospitals. The Second Circle is a safe, clean living environment essential for children with low immunity. The Third Circle offers emotional and psychological support for both children and their families. While hospitals offer the First, St. Judes delivers the Second and Third Circles.
Through free accommodation, nutritious meals, hygienic facilities, and emotional support, St. Judes bridges the gap between treatment and recovery. Today, it supports over 586 families in 11 cities, giving children not just care—but the best chance at a cure.
How we will utilise these books
St. Jude's, under its Education Program, operates a Library Program. The books procured through this campaign from Pratham Books will encourage children to read, helping them improve their reading and vocabulary skills while also nurturing imagination, curiosity, teamwork, and idea sharing. These books provide a meaningful way for children to stay engaged during their time at the centers and play a key role in strengthening their reading abilities.
