Who we are
Shalom Global Foundation (SGF) has been actively working in the state of Jharkhand since 2011. Our focus lies in reaching the most remote and inaccessible areas of districts such as Simdega, Khunti, West Singhbhum, Sahibganj, and Ramgarh. Our primary initiative involves providing access to safe drinking water in regions where essential infrastructure is severely lacking.
In addition to water access, SGF has expanded its focus to include child development, education, and community empowerment. Through our Child Development Centre (CDC), we create safe and nurturing environments where children can access early learning opportunities.
Our work and its impact
During our water project intervention in Dongapani, situated in the outskirt of Jharkhand and Odisha border, we encountered several challenges, including poor infrastructure, unreliable electricity, and the constant presence of wild animals. Amidst these harsh conditions, we discovered a deeper need: children in these tribal communities had no access to basic education.
In response, we launched our first Child Development Centre (CDC) in Dongapani in 2023. Currently, 60 tribal children gather daily at the centre for two hours of structured learning, followed by a nutritious meal. These children are first-generation learners from the Adivasi community, making the CDC a vital gateway to education and growth.
We are now taking the next step: setting up the village’s very first library.
This initiative supports holistic child development by nurturing:
-
-Cognitive skills (thinking and learning abilities)
-Emotional growth (understanding and expressing feelings)
-Social skills (building relationships and communication skills)
-Physical development (motor skills and general health)
-Moral values (character and ethics)
How we will utilise these books
Through this crowdfunding campaign, we aim to provide joyful children’s story books from Pratham books to the very first generation from Adivasi community who are receiving formal education. These books will help introducing the world of story books and inculcate the habit of reading as well as make it enjoyable for them.
These books will help children to:
- -Develop interest in reading diverse children’s literature which will reflect in their independent reading trajectory in the library
- -Engage in conversations, discuss and voice their views with confidence about diverse topics and themes
- -Express themselves confidently—verbally, through writing, and through visual or performing arts.
