Who we are
Eden Educational Resource Centre is a volunteer-driven movement dedicated to promoting education, science, health, and environmental awareness. As part of our educational initiatives, we have established Street Libraries across Tamil Nadu. Over the past three years, we have set up 16 Street Libraries in and around Madurai, all of which continue to operate successfully.
Our work and its impact
Eden Educational Resource Centre focuses on making education accessible to all, especially in underserved communities. Through our Street Libraries, we provide free access to books, encouraging a culture of reading among children. These libraries serve as community learning spaces where children can explore stories, improve their reading skills, and develop a love for books.
Many students who engage with our libraries have started writing their own stories, while others have become storytellers. For slow learners, this initiative has been instrumental in enhancing their reading abilities. Additionally, some children have developed an interest in art, expressing their creativity through drawings inspired by the books they read.
How we will utilise these books
Through this campaign, we aim to distribute books from Pratham Books, benefiting approximately 1,000 children across various rural and low-income urban areas. We identify villages and common community spaces where Street Libraries can be set up. In each village, a dedicated volunteer oversees the library, ensuring that the books are well-maintained and accessible to children. The books will be placed in these common spaces, allowing children to read freely. Every three months, we visit these libraries to assess their impact and gather feedback.
These books will inspire creativity and foster a lifelong love for reading among underserved children.
