Who we are
Anant Valley Public School (AVP), founded by a Teach for India-TISS alumna, aims to democratise education. Rooted in the conviction that quality education should be available to all, regardless of socio-economic status, AVP challenges the deeply entrenched stratification within India's educational landscape. By fostering an inclusive environment, AVP endeavours to break down the barriers that perpetuate educational inequities, thereby paving the way for a more just and equitable society.
Our students come from under-resourced communities, most of whom are children of migrant labourers who have moved to Delhi for better livelihood opportunities. One of our goals is to ensure that our children develop reading as a crucial habit which will not only help them to develop literacy skills but also develop skills like critical thinking, creativity and communication.
Our work and its impact
At AVP, we work to bridge the gap between excellent education and accessibility to ensure that every child has an equal chance to succeed, regardless of the economic background they come from. Therefore, our work revolves around creating engaging, progressive curricula and resources that make learning meaningful and relevant for first-generation learners. We focus on:
- Empowering Teachers: By providing training, structured lesson plans, and support, we enable teachers to create vibrant, learner-centric classrooms.
- Project Based Learning: Through project-based learning, self-directed modules, and initiatives like classroom libraries, we nurture curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking among students.
- Holistic Growth: We build strategic partnerships to ensure our students have exposure to digital literacy, STEM, art, socio emotional learning and more.
- Impact on Society: Our work helps bridge the education gap for under-served communities, creating pathways for social mobility. By instilling a love for learning and equipping children with essential skills, we empower them to break the cycle of poverty and become confident, contributing members of society.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks from Pratham Books will serve as the foundation for a dedicated reading hour in every class, where children will engage with stories that expand their imagination, improve their reading fluency, and enhance their comprehension skills. This structured reading hour will include:
- Guided Reading Sessions: Teachers will support children as they explore age-appropriate stories, ensuring every child gains confidence in their reading abilities.
- Peer Reading Activities: Students will read together in pairs or small groups, fostering teamwork and collaborative learning.
- Discussion and Storytelling: After reading, students will discuss the stories, share reflections, and practice expressing their thoughts, which will build their communication skills.
- Independent Reading Time: Students will have the opportunity to choose books that interest them, instilling a love for reading and encouraging self-directed learning.
- Build foundational literacy skills critical for academic success.
- Spark curiosity and foster a lifelong habit of learning.
- Equip students with the confidence to articulate their ideas and dreams.
