Who we are

The Community Human Empowerment Service for Society (CHESS) is a registered non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Chitradurga District, Karnataka. We are dedicated to improving rural education for children in need and conducting Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities across the districts of Hassan, Chitradurga, Chikkamagaluru, and Davangere in Karnataka. Our mission is to bridge educational gaps and foster community development through impactful initiatives.

Our work and its impact

CHESS addresses critical needs in agriculture, education, health and sanitation, skill development, and water conservation across Karnataka. In the education sector, we actively engage in initiatives to support underprivileged children in rural and urban areas, working to ensure equitable access to quality education.

One of our key projects is the 'Save Government Schools' campaign, which focuses on enhancing resources and improving the quality of education in underserved communities. Through this initiative, we collaborate with individuals and organisations like Pratham Books to mobilise resources and set up libraries in government schools, creating vibrant spaces for learning and exploration.

By providing extracurricular activities and access to high-quality reading materials, we aim to inspire children and improve their educational outcomes, contributing to a brighter future for these communities.

How we will utilise these books

The funds raised through this campaign will be used to stock the library at the Government Primary School in Sanehalli village, Hassan district, with storybooks from Pratham Books. These books will include multilingual STEM-themed stories, catering to the diverse linguistic and learning needs of the children.

This initiative will directly benefit 59 children, providing them with access to engaging and educational storybooks. The books will be used during library hours and incorporated into regular reading sessions, fostering a culture of reading and critical thinking among the students.

Additionally, the library will support children attending night tuition classes, ensuring they have continuous learning resources and opportunities to explore the world of knowledge and imagination.

Join us in this meaningful initiative to unlock the potential of young learners and create lasting change through the power of books!
