Know more about us
Who we are
Satya Special School is an organisation that has worked with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 2003. We provide a wide range of services from identification of disability to providing livelihoods and advocacy in 11 centres, seven of which are in rural areas in Pondicherry and Tamil Nadu. We work with nearly 1000 students directly, and several more through our various other programmes. A lot of our work takes place in rural areas, where intervention and therapy for children with special needs are not available.
Our work and its impact
We provide a range of services including, but not limited to education, therapy, bridge classes for mainstream education, vocational and other training, livelihoods, and advocacy. All our services have their end goal of inclusion— whether in school, the workplace, or the community. We run seven rural centres as well as an ability-specific inclusive school where children with special needs study with other kids from challenging circumstances: children with learning disabilities, children of commercial sex workers, and children of convicts. Our work helps children with disabilities get equal access to resources and helps them live independent and dignified lives while being productive in society.
How we will utilise these books
The books from this campaign will be part of three libraries in our village centres and our Mobile Therapy Unit. The books in the library will be available for our students as well as their siblings, who are often looking for activities to do with their brother or sister with a disability.
