Who we are
We are a bunch of enthusiastic, curious and energetic third graders, studying in a Government school in Chennai. We want to read a lot of books to build our reading levels and know about the outside world through exciting stories. Please donate and help us in our endeavor towards becoming champions at reading.
Our work and its impact
Jahnavi and I, Asha, work with 42 third graders as their teachers. We have been recruited as a part of Teach for India organisation. This organisation recruits motivated individuals from all walks of life and deploys them in low income government or private schools. These schools have children whose reading and writing levels are way below their actual grade levels.
How we will utilise these books
Our vision for the kids is to make them independent thinkers. They will be able to analyse situations, make connections to what they have read and learnt, know how to seek information and become informed decision makers. We move ahead with this vision and facilitate by teaching school materials, other exposure and access materials and also work towards positively changing their values and mindsets. We also visit the community they live in and work in parallel to ensure that what is taught in school also permeates their community. We plan to set up a in classroom library for our class (3rd graders) and one other (4th graders) class. This will ensure that the kids have access to the beautiful and imaginative world of books to improve their reading, analytical and comprehension skills, These skills developed now will create a perfect foundation for their success in future.
