Who we are
My name is G.Rajendra Kumar and I’m a Computer Science teacher at E-Coal International School in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh. Inspired by two of my students – Dharita Chandravanshi and Raju Singh, I founded Pyare Mata Pita Gande Annapurna aur Gande Sudarshan ka Parivar -- Saumya-Jeevi, an NGO to provide education to underprivileged children across India.
Our work and its impact
I have been giving free classes to students from different backgrounds and cultures. Pratham Books’ open-access platform, StoryWeaver and its various reading programmes for students and teachers have helped us connect with the children and make learning fun and enjoyable for them. The teachers have completed the reading programmes curated for them on StoryWeaver and received their certificates. I teach the kids about cyber security, human rights, environmental conservation, etc.
How we will utilise these books
The funds raised from this campaign will be used to get physical copies of Pratham Books storybooks for the children. As they have discovered the joy of reading through StoryWeaver, I want to set up a library for them so they can experience the joy of holding storybooks in their mother tongue language for the first time. The books will help them improve their studies, and become independent readers.
