Who we are
Teach For India (TFI) is a national movement dedicated to addressing educational inequity across India by placing passionate individuals in under-resourced schools. TFI envisions a country where every child, regardless of socio-economic background, has access to an excellent education. Our fellows, drawn from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, commit two years to teaching in low-income communities. These fellows not only serve as educators but also as mentors and role models, creating a supportive learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential.
Through initiatives like our book campaign, TFI aims to provide students with the resources necessary to enrich their learning experiences. This campaign promotes literacy by ensuring access to a diverse range of reading materials, fostering a love for learning, and encouraging critical thinking and creativity among students. By supporting Teach For India, you are helping to shape young minds and contribute to transforming the educational landscape of India, one child at a time.
Our work and its impact
As a Teach For India fellow, I teach 4th-grade students in a government school in PCMC Bhosari, Pune. Many of my students come from under-resourced communities and are behind in their grade-level skills. My role extends beyond academic instruction—I help my students find their voice and equip them to think critically, empathise with others, and express themselves creatively. I teach them to read and write, but I also strive to give them the tools to understand, analyse, and reflect on the world around them.
By focusing on these key areas, I aim to break the barriers of educational inequity that my students face. I believe education has the power to uplift individuals and transform entire communities. When my students learn to lead themselves, they positively influence their families and communities. This work is about fostering a more equitable society, where every child has the opportunity to thrive and dream big, regardless of their background.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks from Pratham Books provided through this campaign will be used to establish a classroom library that will serve as a crucial resource for my students, many of whom have limited access to books outside of school. This library will support the development of essential reading skills, stimulate curiosity, and expand their imaginations. The books will be integrated into daily lessons, independent reading sessions, and small group activities.
With a diverse selection of genres, from fiction to non-fiction, the books will help my students improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills. Additionally, these books will spark meaningful discussions, inspire creative storytelling, and encourage students to connect the stories to their own lives. This library will not only enhance academic learning but will also provide my students with the tools to express themselves and explore the world beyond the classroom.
