Who we are
Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya is a music school which mpowers and supports 250 children from socially marginalized and economically disadvantaged backgrounds to realize their full potential and attain a better life. This is done through an intensive and comprehensive educational program of academics and the performing arts. Our primary aim in the Academic Department is to have a truly child-centered education that caters to different and varied learning styles that allows each and every child to learn at their own pace. Our teachers use different materials and try alternative approaches for which we require nice and easy story books.
Our work and its impact
A team of committed people work at KSV to benefit the students in their education and their daily life. The Music teachers follow the Indian tradition of the Gurukul. The Gurukul is a place where a student comes to live with a reputed master in order to acquire traditional knowledge. The academic teachers undergo constant training sessions to learn about alternative approaches. They ensure that each child gets close attention in all subjects and studies. The wardens supervise the children during their free time, ensure they maintain good hygiene, and help them to solve conflicts. Finally, a team of foreign volunteers contributes also significantly to the smooth functioning of the institution. Their involvement gives the children the opportunity to learn about cultural differences and to understand the world from a broader point of view. KSV is a wonderful project which gives the opportunity to live in a harmonious community.
How we will utilise these books
In a peaceful setting, the children enjoy the tranquility necessary for their academic studies, music practice and many other cultural activities. The students are trained and taught by a team of experienced and motivated teachers and volunteers. The school is now integrated with its environment and the waiting lists for admission to the school are testament to its development and overall culture and ethos that are greatly respected. Through their achievements at KSV, the students are in a position to attain a better future for themselves and their community. Through their music, the children contribute towards the conservation and diffusion of India’s musical heritage. In fact, the first KSV students are now graduated (Master of Music) and teach music at school. Our objective is now to integrate books better in the class preparation and the class contents. If we can receive sets of story books with one book for each and every child in the class it would definitely make the difference by making the reading more interactive and more automatic. The LIC kit could be used in the dormitories where the children have lots of occasion to read and practice (homework time, free time after class and in the evening). By offering many choices to the children these kits make the reading attractive and give the children the habit to read from their childhood.
