Know more about us

Who we are

Child Nurture and Relief Kashmir (CHINAR Kashmir) is a non-profit organisation with a mission to support orphans, destitute children, women, and youth in Jammu & Kashmir. Since our inception in 2004, we initiated our journey with a pilot project: a home in Srinagar for orphaned boys and girls. Over the years, we have expanded our reach to include multiple programs. Our foundational values, which emphasise quality assistance underpinned by accountability and transparency, have stayed consistent. Our primary objective is to enhance the lives of marginalised children, women, and families. This is achieved mainly through education and the development of skills geared towards employment. Based in Jammu and Kashmir, we operate several innovative programs. These are aimed at the social and economic upliftment of women and youth, ensuring familial care and education for destitute children, and offering material support to families in need.

In addition to our core programs, we have been deeply involved in disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts in Kashmir since 2004. Our endeavours have been made possible by the generous financial contributions from individuals and institutions. Moreover, the relentless dedication and effort of our volunteer team have been instrumental in our journey.

Our work and its impact

Since its inception in 2004, CHINAR Kashmir has made remarkable strides in its commitment to elevating underserved communities in Jammu and Kashmir. Our journey began with the establishment of a home for orphaned boys and girls in Kashmir. Over the years, our initiatives have diversified, targeting the upliftment of vulnerable children, women, and families grappling with socio-economic adversities. A testament to our growth is the expansion of our CHINAR Home Program, which now offers a nurturing environment and educational opportunities to 50 orphaned children.

Our Remote Child Sponsorship Program (RCSP) stands as a beacon of hope for 2,500 children in isolated regions, granting them access to education and vital resources. Furthermore, our Scholarship, Training, and Education Programme for Undergraduates and Postgraduates (STEP-UP) has been pivotal in aiding 43 students to chase their dreams in esteemed fields such as medicine, engineering, and management.

Through our Skills Enhancement & Entrepreneurship Development (SEED) initiative, we've inaugurated ten centres in distant locales, equipping 800 individuals with vocational skills and the tools to forge their paths.

How we will utilise these books

CHINAR Kashmir is keen on establishing a library for the children residing at the CHINAR Kashmir Home. While these children attend schools and benefit from a dedicated team of tutors providing home tuition, the absence of a well-equipped library feels like a missing piece. A library within the CK Home would undoubtedly bolster their reading journey. Possessing a collection of books in a home setting, especially at CK Home, can offer numerous advantages, including enhanced attention, vocabulary expansion, and academic achievement. With access to a diverse range of books, the children at CK Home will experience comprehensive growth and development.
