Who we are
Government Model Higher Primary School in the village of Vandse, Udupi district, was founded in 1914. In 2015, when we celebrated the hundredth anniversary, the population of the school had dropped from thousands of students to around a hundred. Therefore, a group of donors led by Shri Krishnamoorthy Manja, formed the Shri Mookambika Charitable trust which adopted the school. They opened a pre-primary school and provided school vehicles, smart classrooms and other infrastructure. The trust also appointed teachers to strengthen the faculty. Today this school is known for its quality education. There are 445 students from ten surrounding villages.
Our work and its impact
I am a lecturer in Chemistry. Being a parent of this school, I would love to get involved in the overall development of the school. To keep up with the growing student population and their needs, we want to increase the library’s capacity, especially for younger students.
How we will utilise these books
The funds from this campaign will help us get multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books for the school library. A library period will be introduced to the school timetable and children will be allowed to read the books during the library hour. Through this, we hope to engage the younger students in reading and help them cultivate a reading habit.
