About the Campaign
Children have a deep affection for books and stories, as they are introduced to captivating ideas, places, and creatures they haven’t encountered before. Through stories, children gain insights into life, the world, and themselves. However, many children face challenges in fully grasping the content of picture books due to language barriers.
The ‘Joy of Reading’ initiative aims to contribute to building a ‘reading India’ by ensuring that storybooks are accessible to thousands of children, fostering the love of reading. As the festive season approaches, consider donating to the ‘Joy of Reading’ campaign to conclude your year on a positive note. Let’s all play a part in the mission to place a book in every child’s hands and spread the joy of reading. Your contribution will empower children in government schools, introducing them to storybooks in languages they comprehend. The funds raised will be used to source and provide delightful storybooks from our partner, Pratham Books, offering children the opportunity to access these enriching materials.

What will the children receive?
The children will be provided story books by our partner Pratham Books that will have colourful illustrations, localised content in Indian languages. These books will help children overcome the barriers to reading and become lifelong learners.
About Pratham Books
Pratham Books is a non-profit children’s book publisher set up in 2004. Our mission is to put ‘a book in every child’s hand and unlock the joy of reading’. Over the years we have published thousands of delightful storybooks for children in many Indian languages, and partnered with many organisations and individuals in our ongoing efforts to get ‘a book in every child’s hand’. Our books are affordable, accessible and engaging, making them a valuable resource for children and schools in India.
Joyful Story Books: With colourful illustrations, localised content in Indian languages, and easy access, our books help overcome the barriers to reading. Our books are categorised across four levels- Emergent, Early, Independent and Fluent readers, based on reading proficiency rather than age. This encourages children to read in a non-judgmental way, regardless of their grade level. Each book comes with a coloured reading band and a legend at the back that explains the reading level to the teacher or facilitator.
Portable Library: Guided by the scarcity of infrastructure and resources that most government and affordable private schools face, we designed the Library-in-a-Classroom. It is a portable library that hangs on the wall containing 100 richly illustrated storybooks. Children enjoy invaluable physical proximity to printed books which in turn encourages them to read and develop emotionally and intellectually.
