Who we are
At Surya Foundation, we are committed to empowering rural India through education, creativity, and values. For over 29 years, we have been dedicated to shaping the lives of children in underprivileged communities. With an extensive network of 240+ Surya Sanskar Kendras, in more than 10 states, we provide children with safe spaces for intellectual growth, moral development, and experiential learning.
Our Surya Sanskar Kendras are more than just learning centers, they are platforms for transformation. These evening centers operate daily two-hour sessions, offering a nurturing environment for children to explore their potential through interactive activities, character-building exercises, and collaborative learning. Our work has touched the lives of over 2 lakh children, cultivating good habits, uncovering hidden talents, and preparing them to contribute positively to their communities.
Our work and its impact
We address the critical lack of educational resources in rural areas by creating opportunities for children to access quality learning materials and cultivate a lifelong love for reading. Libraries have become a cornerstone of our efforts, enabling children to enhance their creativity, critical thinking, and knowledge through storytelling, art, and reading activities.
Through our past campaigns with the support of Pratham Books and Donate-a-Book platform, we were able to set up libraries in Haryana villages and witnessed transformative results as libraries were instrumental in instilling good habits of reading, communicating, confidence, curiosity, and imagination among hundreds of children, empowering them to dream big and work toward a better future.
How we will utilise these books
We aim to set up 108 libraries across Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Haryana, Delhi, and Andhra Pradesh to ignite creativity. These classroom libraries will go beyond reading, hosting activities that enhance creativity and critical thinking.

-Encourage Creativity:
Illustrated books will inspire children to draw, paint, and recreate story scenes. Role plays and skits based on stories will build confidence and teamwork.
-Boost Expression and Critical thinking: Story-sharing circles will allow children to express ideas and opinions, improving communication and critical thinking.
-Promote Feedback and Growth: Students will provide feedback on books, fostering critical engagement and analytical skills.
-Storytelling and Engagement: Mentors will lead interactive storytelling with props, toys, and objects. Art and narration contests will motivate children to participate and showcase their talents.
