Who we are
The Techi Jully and Ratu Foundation (TJ&R) is an NGO based in Arunachal Pradesh, committed to empowering marginalised women and children in remote tribal communities. Founded by three sisters from these communities, we have a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by people in these regions.
Our mission is to ensure that every child attending government schools in Arunachal Pradesh has access to enriching resources that extend beyond traditional classrooms. We believe that storybooks ignite imagination, foster curiosity, and encourage self-discovery. However, many families in these remote areas struggle to access or afford high-quality books. Our “Book Nation Project” bridges this gap by equipping schools with library kits, ensuring students have access to educational resources that cultivate a love for reading and learning.
We are equally committed to creating safe, inclusive environments for tribal women and children through initiatives focused on education, mental and physical well-being, and women’s empowerment. Through these vital efforts, TJ&R strives to make a lasting, positive impact on marginalised populations and build a brighter future for the next generation.
Our work and its impact
At the Techi Jully & Ratu Foundation, “The Book Nation Project” is a core initiative designed to address the severe shortage of educational resources in primary and upper primary government schools across Arunachal Pradesh’s remote tribal areas. These schools often lack basic learning materials, and establishing functional libraries poses a significant challenge due to limited funding. To tackle this issue, we collaborate with school principals and teachers to identify and support schools most in need of library kits, which contain carefully curated storybooks and educational materials.
By providing these library kits, we enrich students’ educational experiences, giving them access to quality literature that would otherwise be out of reach. This initiative fosters a love for reading, enhances literacy, and encourages critical thinking, helping students to broaden their horizons. Through “The Book Nation Project,” we aim to address systemic inequities in education, empowering the next generation with knowledge and tools essential for their success. Our efforts contribute to closing educational gaps in underserved communities, supporting long-term societal growth and positive change.
How we will utilise these books
The storybooks provided through “The Book Nation Project” will be instrumental in setting up fully functional libraries within the schools we support. These libraries will serve as vibrant centres for learning, giving students access to a diverse collection of storybooks and educational materials in English. With regular access to these resources, students will not only improve their literacy but will also gain insights into the broader world and foster a lifelong passion for reading.
By establishing these dynamic learning spaces, we aim to cultivate intellectual growth, spark curiosity, and inspire creativity among students. Currently, several schools in Arunachal Pradesh, including in rural and tribal areas, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of these library kits. The funds we raise will be dedicated to equipping these schools with the necessary resources, ensuring that no child is left without access to the world of books. Every contribution plays a role in closing the educational gap, empowering 45 young minds in some of Arunachal Pradesh’s most underserved regions.
