Who we are

We seek funding for our Library at the schools supported by Aseema in Mumbai and our Education Centre in Igatpuri. The Pre-Primary class at Igatpuri will require books in Marathi for developing language skills in the students. Each of our classrooms are equipped with a reading corner. We would like to expand the collection, so that the children inculcate the habit of reading and benefit from a wider genre.

Our work and its impact

Aseema Charitable Trust is a Mumbai based NGO with a mission to equip children from marginalized communities with high quality, value based education enabling development of their limitless potential. Since its inception in 1997, Aseema has been striving to achieve this by building a nurturing environment for the children, adopting excellent teaching-learning methodology and fostering community partnerships. We strive to empower Mumbai’s most neglected children – children living on the streets, or in slums and in inhuman conditions.

How we will utilise these books

In Mumbai, we work in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and support three municipal schools catering to children from Pre Primary to Standard X. Aseema’s teaching approach aims to help children think, question, analyse and experience independence and joy in learning. In each of these schools, our teachers are oriented to Aseema’s child friendly approach, making the learning environment stimulating and creating a culture that respects the child and promotes learning. In addition to academics, the children enjoy a wide range of co-curricular activities, excursions and festival celebrations. Nutritious meals are offered on a daily basis and health camps are organized as required. In addition, the schools also have facilities for remedial education and counselling. Many of our alumni have successfully enrolled into reputed colleges across the city, are working and contributing to their families and community. The funds generated will be utilized to get age- appropriate books for the three schools in Mumbai and our Education Centre in Igatpuri. Most of our children are first generational learners, we would like to encourage them to take books home and make reading a part of their daily activity at home. Reading activities would help them build new vocabulary and improve their communication skills. Development of reading skills would have a greater impact on the overall academic programme. It also boosts imagination, creativity and makes the child versatile in their approach.
