Who we are

Saakshar Hum Foundation is a public charitable trust that aims to bring about a significant change in the lives of economically marginalised children by creating a learning environment focused on the 3 Es of education: education, empowerment and environment. This helps in bridging the socio-economic gap they face and achieving educational success.
We have been taking the help of educated people in society to reach our goal of creating a powerful educational ecosystem.

Our work and its impact

Before Saakshar Hum Foundation was formally established, our founders organised interactive classes for marginalised children for over five years. After adopting a school with 500 students from a rural-urban area of Noida and providing them with educational support, they witnessed significant changes in learning outcomes.
Therefore, with the collective effort of like-minded Noida residents, a library project was initiated and run for five years in neighbouring government schools, resulting in a joyous rise in the love for books amongst students and improved creative writing skills, communication and spoken English skills.

How we will utilise these books

For the past five years, Saakshar Hum has been providing spoken English classes for 1500 students in five government schools based on our in-house curriculum. It was felt that the students needed level-wise and quality reading material which would boost their confidence and further their love for books.
We proposed a library project to the Basic Education Department of Gautama Buddha Nagar, Noida and to fill the libraries with delightful storybooks, we have raised a crowdfunding campaign ‘A Book in Every Bag’. Our focus is now on building foundational literacy and instilling an interest in reading among the 1500 students studying in five government schools, the 500 students of our adopted school and 50 children from our educational centres situated in four locations in rural-urban areas of Gautama Buddha Nagar. We will use the funds from this campaign to get multilingual storybooks from Pratham Books for our campaign and spread the joy of reading to thousands of children in Noida.
