Who we areThe Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Government of Karnataka in partnership with Pratham Books, is setting up informal learning spaces through thousands of Gram Panchayat libraries across the state. Pratham Books is a non-profit children’s book publisher that strives to put ‘a book in every child’s hand’.
Our work and its impactOver 17 years, Pratham Books has published thousands of delightful storybooks for children in many languages, and partnered with many organisations and individuals in our ongoing efforts to get ‘a book in every child’s hand’. Our delightful, engaging storybooks are published in a range of mother tongue languages and formats to get children to read more and to captivate, engage, and encourage children to discover the joy of reading.
How we will utilise these booksThis crowdfunding campaign will help in filling 2,581 Gram Panchayat libraries across 11 districts of Karnataka - Udupi, Belagavi, Chamarajanagar, Chitradurga, Dakshina Kannada, Gadag, Hassan, Haveri, Kolar, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada - with storybooks from Pratham Books in Kannada and other languages. Pratham Books even offers Braille books for the visually impaired.
This initiative will directly impact over 26 lakh children across the state of Karnataka, who have been out of school for the better part of the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and widespread school closures. Storybooks have the unique ability to provide children with windows to new worlds and different ideas, enabling them to continue their learning journey while at home.
So join us in Building a Reading India in collaboration with the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, Government of Karnataka, and help us spread the joy of reading far and wide.
