'Reading can take you places you have never been before. - Dr. Seuss' Prajayatna is a development initiative working to improve the quality of education in public schools. The intent of the approach is to facilitate and support children's learning in a manner that they are able to apply what they learn in school to various real life situations. At a primary stage the approach focuses on 'learning how to learn' which in turn emphasizes building of abilities of children – like abilities to create, evaluate, recall, analyze, remember, understand and apply – to be adaptive learners throughout their lives.
Prajayatna has been working for more than 15 years in bringing about a systemic change in the functioning of the education system and thereby ensure quality education to all children. The work has involved working intensively with communities. In this context, we have worked towards building the institutional capabilities of the structures such as the School Management Committees, Anganwadi level Monitoring Committees, etc.

Till date, Kalikayatna has reached out to 171 schools, 428 teachers and 12905 children in total. We are working with 75 schools, and looking to create mini-libraries in each of these schools. We want to help provide quality education for the students of 1st -5th standard in each of these schools. The teachers are trained to create a conducive environment to access books as a resource, enhancing the learning of every child in the classroom.
