We are four Teach For India Fellows who want to build a school library for approximately 2000 children. Our school is in Sangam Vihar, one of the largest illegal colonies in Asia. We require books of different reading levels from Nursery to 5th grade. Please help us achieve this dream. Support education, support children. Help us build a library in Sangam Vihar.
I am a Teach For India Fellow working in an MCD school in Sangam Vihar, New Delhi. My co-fellows and I, with the help of our school teachers, want to set up a school library for approximately 2000 children from lower economic background. We would like to build a reading culture in the community along with our kids. Every child deserves access to the vast world of books and literature. Children carry imagination in themselves. Along with them, we want to imagine a place where the community can come together to think and read. Help us to bring our vision alive and give the gift of stories to our kids.
I am a Teach For India Fellow, currently teaching 58 enthusiastic learners in 2nd Grade. At Teach For India, we believe that "one day all children will attain excellent education". The vision for excellent education can only come true when we all collectively make an effort to provide access and exposure to our children. My kids come from under resourced backgrounds yet their dreams, aspirations and zeal is unchallenged. They are the leaders and my work is to cultivate their skills and mindset for a stronger and a better future.
We aim to set up a fully functioning school library by the end of March 2019. The collected funds will be utilized to buy books in English, Hindi and Urdu. We want the kids to fall in love with reading and this will only be possible if they have access to storybooks. A collective space of thinking and learning will encourage all the children in the school to read more and better. Our vision for the school library is to build collective learning through read aloud, independent reading and various activities and workshops.
