Our story

Association For Development (AFD) is a Not-For-Profit organization raising funds for creating a recreational space in form of library for children belonging to resettlement area of Trilokpuri, Delhi. The library will provide a space to children to develop a reading habit among them and aid in acquiring knowledge outside the text books/syllabus. The money raised under the campaign will help us in putting additional books in already existing library. The books will reach additional 1000 children from the community and will help them in widen their knowledge.

Who we are

Association For Development (AFD) is more than two decade old Not For Profit organization working with children of East Delhi, empowering them through education, information and intervention in case of child sexual abuse. We believe that every child deserves a safe and secure environment to develop and it is essential to provide support mechanism to the children in need of care and protection. We also believe education is not restricted to text books but books (story or otherwise) are an integral part of child’s development as it helps in expanding their creative skills, vocabulary, concentration, critical thinking and logical reasoning.

Our work and its impact

Association for Development (AFD) is a Not-For-Profit organization working on promoting child rights focusing on child protection and counseling services (in collaboration with Delhi Police) to survivor of sexual assault for more than two decades. In Delhi, we have successfully rehabilitated more than 2000 child sexual assault survivors. We have also conducted training programmes/sensitization workshops for police officials, Members/Chairpersons of Child Welfare Committees, NGO functionaries and Community groups on effective & efficient handling of cases of child sexual assault, POCSO Act, J.J. Act etc. in Delhi, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh etc. on the invitation of UNICEF and State Governments. Recently we have established supplementary education centers in Trilokpuri, Delhi for the children studying in government schools. Trilokpuri is a resettlement colony that comprises of families from varied religion, caste and ethnicity. The area lacks safe recreational spaces for the children where a child could play and learn at the same time. We aim at creating an enabling environment for children and recreational spaces in form of library providing children a space to read and learn through new concepts through attractive books.

How we will utilize these funds

Funds collected from this campaign will be utilized to buy more books to stock up our existing community library (established by AFD). The library would help the children to access the books (frictional as well as reference books) those were once out of reach from them.
