As several regions across India is recovering from the recent floods, there are several schools who have lost hundreds and thousands of reading material, some schools have lost entire libraries. This campaign is a small endeavour to provide them with some joyful reading material as they build back their schools. We aim to raise money for 5,000 books and distribute it directly to the schools affected by the floods. We have identified 5 schools and are in the process of adding more schools to the list. Let's come together to give #BookRelief
Pratham Books is a not-for-profit organization that publishes books in multiple Indian languages to promote reading among children. In the last decade, Pratham Books has published over 450 original titles in 21 Indian languages, which total up to about 3000 books. Our vision is to reach 200 million children in India, and we hope to someday put 'a book in every child's hand'.
At Pratham Books, we believe that every child has the right to enjoy good books. And we believe they should have stories set in surroundings familiar to them and in a language close to their culture. We believe that to make books accessible to every child, the price points have to be very low. Pratham Books is a brand of storybooks as Indian as the children who read them. As a not-for-profit publisher, our dream is to see a country where every child wants to read, is able to read, and has something good to read. From publishing good quality and highly contextualized stories to be read and enjoyed by children, we consistently reach out to children through our various partner organizations. In the last year, we distributed over 30 million books and story cards to our young readers with the help of various organizations across the country. Our aim is to have something good for every child, in every part of the country, and in the process spread the joy of reading far and wide.
Pratham Books will identify low-income/Government schools in Kerala, Coorg and Nagaland. After a proper screening of the work they do, Pratham Books will give away a set of books to each of these schools. The books will be across all reading levels and primarily in English, Hindi and Kannada.
