Our story

Spiti Valley is a difficult-to-access region of Himachal Pradesh, which is known for its scenic beauty and hospitable people. The government schools in Spiti Valley are extremely resource-crunched and teachers often have to trek for an hour just to reach the schools. We are on a mission to set up libraries in these schools. Earlier this year we raised funds to set up libraries in 8 schools. All these libraries have been set up and we want to extend this support to 20 additional schools.

Who we are

Let's Open a Book was started in 2015, to reach children from government primary schools and to help in cultivating reading habits among them. So far we have set up 14 libraries in government primary schools of Gurgaon (Sohna) and Spiti Valley, Himachal. We are currently reaching 1200+ children through this initiative. Our work and its impact

Our mission is to encourage reading habits among children from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing storybooks in government primary schools. We also provide ongoing support to teachers and students, so that they can use the books to develop reading capabilities and critical thinking. The unique feature of our libraries is that children are the owners of the libraries in their school, which also helps them in building leadership skills.

How we will utilize these funds

We are aiming to reach to 20 more schools this year and the funding would be used for that. These libraries would help in reaching 200+ children who other wise have no access to storybooks. All these libraries would be completely free for use.
