At our after-school community centre, 40 corporation school students are trained in academics, extra-curricular activities and life-skills. To build reading stamina and interest in these kids, we are looking for exciting books and stories, so the kids are engaged and transported to different worlds!
The name "Yein Udaan" (My Takeoff) is an amalgamation of two languages - Tamil ('Yein' meaning 'My') and Hindi ('Udaan' meaning 'Takeoff'). It was conceived as an after-school community center to provide continuous training in academic, cultural, and sports activities to children in Chetpet's Dhobikana community, located in central Chennai. Our mission is to provide a safe space for underprivileged children to indulge in quality academic, cultural and sports training for their holistic development.
At Yein Udaan, we aim to work on the holistic development of underprivileged children, by providing them with academic and extra-curricular training. We believe that building a skill-set, independent of academic features, will help children grow into confident and self-aware individuals. By forming partnerships with established individuals and groups in the city, our goal is to bridge the opportunity gap that is often found between privileged and underprivileged children. We hope to provide such opportunities to children in several communities across Chennai, and beyond.
The funds will be utilised to source exciting levelled books for all the budding readers at our centre!
