Anantapur Sports Village (ASV) is home to nearly 160 girls and boys coming from various underprivileged regions of Anantapur. ASV, under the Anantapur Sports Academy program, supports the ambitions of these children between the ages of 9 and 18 years in playing sport while obtaining an education. This year, our children are making efforts to improve their English language skills. In this regard, we decided to set up a campus library to encourage them to read to improve their English language and to promote a culture for reading. Please join our campaign and support us to help children read.
Anantapur Sports Academy (ASA) is a Sport for Development Program initiated by Rayalaseema Development Trust (RDT), an NGO based out of Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. ASA is continuously making efforts towards making ‘Anantapur’ a sporting district by promoting sport as well as recognizing it as a tool for the holistic development of the children and youth coming from underprivileged sections. Since 2000, ASA is committed to provide equipment, infrastructure and coaching support to bring out hidden sporting abilities of rural children and youth in different sporting disciplines. Apart from promoting sports amongst the underprivileged children and youth of Anantapur, the program is also contributing towards their socio-educational development.
ASA, through its three tier pyramid model, strives to ensure that children and youth enjoy their "Right To Play". Annually, the initiative encourages over 9,000 girls and boys from the district of Anantapur to participate in sport and enjoy its benefits. Emphasis is primarily to promote sport and increase the participation in sport, particularly of girls in the base of the pyramid termed as Grassroot and Development centres. While at the apex, Anantapur Sports Village (ASV) established as a day-boarding and residential academy in 2002, supports ambitious children and youth to reach higher levels in sport while focusing on their holistic development. Children and youth at ASV receive year long scholarships to pursue their interests in both academic and sporting fronts - they are enrolled in higher education and simultaneously continue playing sport at competitive levels. Youth at ASV regularly participate in the state, national and university level games, helping them secure work opportunities with both public and private enterprises.
The funds raised through this campaign will be utilized to setup a campus library space for the 160 residential children and youth at ASV. The storybooks received through this campaign will enable the children and youth to access another opportunity for their development besides inculcating the culture for reading. These books will also play a supportive role in the children and youth’s efforts to improve their Basic English language skills.
