We are a bunch of curious, fun loving and brave second graders studying in low income Government school in Chennai. Though in grade 2, we are just beginning level readers getting our alphabets right. We know that we have a long way to go and a classroom library will be our way forward to become responsible thinkers and doers who will change the world for good.
I am a primary school teacher in a Government school in Chennai. I teach a bunch of second graders who just love books. Even though they struggle with putting letters and words together flipping through the pages and making their own stories from the illustration is joy for them! They go through so many challenges everyday from poverty to violence to lack of basic necessities. Yet, they make it to school every single day to learn new things. I want my little munchkins to know the world beyond their classroom and community. I feel books would help us doing that!
I am currently a Teach For India fellow in a corporation school in Chennai mentoring a bunch of second graders. As a mentor to them I help them in academics as well in their holistic development.
The funds will be utilized to set up a classroom library and help the kids develop their language skills.
