Our story

Library for All (LfA) is an initiative to provide a promising learning to all children by setting up quality libraries in government elementary schools. LfA initiative is to serve as an alternative to the conventional public school curriculums especially in tribal dominated hilly regions and where teacher and teaching-learning resources are below adequate. LfA is to ensure all children have access to adequate books and resources for a joyful and promising learning. The initiative aims to enable all children to read, comprehend and present themselves. Help us bringing change in their life with books.

Who we are

Library for All is established in July 2016 with support from Wipro Limited with a MoU. We are a start-up team of highly motivated youths who have dreams to transform the prevailing public education system in the most disadvantaged regions especially in hilly tribal areas of Manipur, to start from. We have our office in Ukhrul, tribal district of Manipur with 6 full-time staffs and 6 volunteers with constant support from various professionals who loved to volunteer for our cause. We are envisioned to increase learning outcome by ensuring quality education in schools. We have a big-dream mission to set up 500 libraries benefiting 30,000 children by 2020.

Our work and its impact

The initiative is aimed to ensure that every child in all schools has access to adequate books and teaching-learning materials for a joyful and promising learning. The objective of the initiative is to enable all children to read, write, comprehend and present appropriate to their age. Ukhrul is hilly tribal dominated, difficult terrain and politically disturbed region in Manipur just border to Myanmar. In Ukhrul, around 28,461 children have no access to Library. The district does not have Library in 85% of schools. Ukhrul has a serious issue of teacher absenteeism as it lies in the hilly region. The number of children enrolled in the government school is highest in Ukhrul and learning level is lowest in Ukhrul as compared to rest of the eight districts in Manipur. The initiative of Library for All will benefit these children of geographically, socially and an economically most disadvantaged section of the tribal community in Manipur.

How we will utilize these funds

Library for All has planned to set up libraries in 12 schools in educationally most backward villages that would benefit more than 800 children. Library in Class kit would be installed in the schools of not-all-weather construction. Our Readers and Volunteers will directly facilitate children to learn at best from the kits for 3 days week; and take-home and reading at school/libraries for 6 days a week. This initiative will serve as a promising alternative to the conventional public school curriculum as there is hardly any govt. appointed teacher and hardly any book of children's interest in the schools.
