Our story

PRAYOG has been working in Gopalganj district of Bihar for value based education. We run a community library (see, http://iplc.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/BP-Book-2015.pdf - page 15) and have recently started with a school improvement program in association with Education Department in two Government schools on a pilot basis. Children between Class 1-5 in both the schools are getting access to animated videos on Maths and Environmental Science. Libraries in each Class is what we foresee can develop reading habits amongst these children. We need interesting books, primarily in Hindi that can develop the reading habits amongst 1000 children in both the schools

Who we are

Professionals Alliance for Youths Growth or PRAYOG started in June 2013 and was registered as a Trust in November 2013. We work in Kuchaikote block of Gopalganj where a community library has been reaching out to more than 1000 children enrolled in Government schools. Apart from this there are allied activities: exposure visits, solar study lamps, curious learning project through digital mode, creating forward linkages for girls education and recently started school improvement program (http://prayoginbihar.blogspot.in/2015/08/what-makes-us-dream-and-work-hard_9.html)

Our work and its impact

PRAYOG is now reaching out to more than 1000 children in the age group of 3 - 18 from 12 villages of Kuchaikote block. Our library is a place of interaction for these children with a daily footfall of more than 100 children. In our exposure visit initiative, these children are selected and more than 300 children have been taken to places to attend workshops by SPIC MACAY, a trip to a forest village in Jalpaiguri, village visit of Dr. Rajendra Prasad and a famous eye hospital of Bihar which has focus on girls education. 200 solar study lamps have been distributed through a crowdfunding done in Milaap and that has increased the study hours of children, also reaching out to 800 kids. 50 children between 3 - 8 years are learning on their own through personalized tablets. 500 children are getting access to animated videos in 2 Government schools

How we will utilize these funds

PRAYOG would set up 10 Class room libraries in the 2 Government schools. This would be a scientific approach and a dedicated team would be there to study the behaviour of these children. We are going to have a India Fellow placed with us and steer the libraries project. If there is a change observed in the reading habits of children in these schools as compared to other Government schools, we will advocate with the Education Department for more such libraries at the primary school level
