Pratham Books is a not-for-profit organization that publishes books in multiple Indian languages to promote reading among children. To celebrate Children's Day, Pratham Book is aiming to build one library for every state in India. Each of these libraries will be given to a worthy and genuine non-profit organisation or school doing exemplar work with the children of that state.
Pratham Books is a not-for-profit organization that publishes books in multiple Indian languages to promote reading among children. In the last decade, Pratham Books has published over 300 original titles in 18 Indian languages, which total up to about 2000 books. Our vision is to reach 200 million children in India, and we hope to someday put 'a book in every child's hand'.
At Pratham Books, we believe that every child has the right to enjoy good books. And we believe they should have stories set in surroundings familiar to them and in a language close to their culture. We believe that to make books accessible to every child, the price points have to be very low. Pratham Books is a brand of story books as Indian as the children who read them. As a not-for-profit publisher, our dream is to see a country where every child wants to read, is able to read, and has something good to read. From publishing good quality and highly contextualized stories to be read and enjoyed by children, we consistently reach out to children through our various partner organizations. In the last year, we distributed over 1.2 million books to our young readers with the help of various organizations across the country. Our aim is to have something good for every child, in every part of the country, and in the process spread the joy of reading far and wide.
Pratham Books will identify not-for-profit organisations and low-income/Government schools in each state. After a proper screening of the work they do, Pratham Books will give away a 'Library -in-a-Classroom' set to each of these organisations. The books will be across all reading levels and of languages as per the preference of the organisation. 29 library sets will be given to 29 organizations across 29 states of the country.
